The number of wedding veil styles can feel intimidating at first glance. From the cathedral length veil and chapel length veil, to the elbow length veil and shorter styles… where to begin? Here’s a little guidance for inspiration.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT VEIL FOR YOUR WEDDING DRESS

  • Consider the overall silhouette, any dress detail and the back of your gown. The right wedding veil will be like the delicious icing on the cake, rather than competing with your dress
  • Unless you're wearing a short veil, choose a wedding veil that falls below the back neckline of your dress without any exposed skin on show to break the visual line of the dress and veil. If you’re considering a long veil, around 20cm longer than your dress is ideal
  • Choose a wedding veil with the right finish for your dress. Team a plain dress with an intricate, sparkly veil but keep it simpler for elaborate gowns
  • Choosing the right wedding veil colour for your dress couldn’t be easier. Just opt for the exact shade of your gown or a shade lighter

HOW LONG WILL YOU GO?

  • If you want to go all-out, a cathedral-length veil makes the most dramatic of entrances. Think cascading swathes of airy tulle sweeping up the aisle
  • If that’s too much, a chapel-length veil has a flowing train and is a classic choice if you’re having a formal wedding in a church

HOW TO WEAR A WEDDING VEIL

  • Your hairstyle needs to be able to support the wedding veil, and don’t forget to take it to your hair trial so you can experiment with different looks
  • Check how to secure the wedding veil in your hair. Most veils come with a comb attached, usually plain, but some combs are embellished which takes care of the hair accessory decision
  • Two-tier wedding veils have a ‘blusher’ that can be draped over the face, which is swept back during the ceremony. The double layers of tulle give a more voluminous effect than the single-tier wedding veil
  • Try wearing a comb or pin with your wedding veil. Remove the veil at the reception and let the hair accessory shine

HOW MUCH SHOULD A WEDDING VEIL COST?

The wedding veil cost is dependent on the length, materials and trims, complexity of design, and the veil designer. If you’d like a custom option, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to discuss ideas and provide a quote.

YOUR DAY, YOUR WAY

Do you have to wear a veil at your wedding? The veil is a decorative bridal piece steeped in custom, but that doesn’t mean it’s essential. If you’re anything but traditional, you may decide to go without. But, it may be worth trying a wedding veil on before making your final choice. For a quirkier retro-style option, consider the playful birdcage veil, which can also be worn in the evening too.
